Week 7 – Gratitude Challenge – A friend #1

During this challenge, there is going to be a few posts of Gratitude towards friends and it starts with the first one this week. What better time than to be more grateful for this one friend, who does not live close by, but is always there as my best friend.

She will probably kill me for featuring her on my blog but as No.1 she had to get a mention. This year, as most of you know, is a busy year for me with a new arrival weeks away and a wedding fast approaching, things sometimes need helping hands and what are friends for?

The Oxford dictionary makes me laugh on this definition of a friend:

NOUN:

A person with whom one has a bond of mutual affection, typically one exclusive of sexual or family relations.
β€˜she’s a friend of mine’

We first met working in House of Fraser, a friendship that struck up 7 years ago, sharing many laughs and still do. The best part of friendships is the support given no matter where you are or what the circumstances are. This No.1 friend has always been on the end of WhatsApp or the phone with break ups, make ups, tears and laughter.

A few years ago, she moved away from Gloucestershire but she has never been far away to share a story or two. Although the distance was there it never stopped us from lovingly watching Mr Selfridge on a Sunday evening drinking wine wishing we were in the era.

When Mr N popped the question, there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted this lady to be my right-hand person to help me through the day, someone who knew exactly what I wanted. Plus I could trust her to keep the fluffy hen party attire at bay!!  I was thrilled when she accepted to be my maid of honour.

Then came the baby news, an extended Auntie that would accept our little bundle into the girlie squad. I will not lie this pregnancy has not been easy and had its ups and downs, but she was always there to listen to me complain and laugh along with the suffering. Which she tells me I can keep!

I am eternally grateful for this girl in my life as friendships come and go, this lady stays and supports, through tough times and good. She always manages to make me smile, see sense and keep calm. Hopefully, we will get better at exchanging Birthday and Christmas presents on time and not in May as per the last few years due to hectic work schedules.

Thank you, Tor, for being my friend and supporting me in hours of need in the years gone by. (please do not kill me for blogging you x)

True Friend

A friend is like a star that twinkles and glows
Or maybe like the ocean that gently flows
A friend is like gold that you should treasure
And take care of forever and ever
A friend is like an angel that is there to guide you
A friend is someone you can trust out of a few
A friend is more than one in a million
They are one in a ca-zillion
And you, my friend, are very special
and so it is official.
