The Find Review – Cheltenham

Have you found The Find yet in Cheltenham? If you haven’t, where have you been?

During the day it’s a great place to grab a coffee and cake, maybe brunch? When myself and Baby T visited, we went to have brunch with some friends who highly recommended them and it did not disappoint.

The staff were attentive and so helpful; having a 6-month-old at the time struggling with a highchair is a real bind, but they had no problem showing us how to use the highchair, I was really impressed. Then came the brunch, it was delicious.

But The Find is much more than a coffee shop, you are able to enjoy a variety of offerings given by David, Claire and their team.

The Find has now been open for 4 months and a group of us bloggers were invited to an evening with David and Claire to discover what The Find has to offer.

The vision behind Cheltenham’s newest food venue was to be more than just another coffee house, it is a place where people can meet to dine, relax and share a coffee or a cocktail. The cocktails are divine by the way, the best Espresso martini I have tasted, but my favourite is the Chuka Gin cocktail. Which brings me to my favourite thing about The Find, they have worked incredibly hard to ensure that their suppliers are local. For example, the gin in the Chuka is from Cirencester and even better, their wine suppliers are from Poulton Estates near Cirencester.

During the evening they had invited a guest speaker from the Poulton Estates talk us through the wine that we were sampling and also what they do at Poulton. Natalie was incredibly passionate about what they do and for once made sense regarding the wine they produce. We started with an English Sparkling Rose from 2013 which was beautifully balanced and you could taste the hints of strawberry. The 2016 Special Reserve followed, now I am not a big fan of white wines but this was delicious, it was light and refreshing with hints of elderflower. We finally finished with their 2014 Rose, a dry rose that again had strawberry hints.

Whilst we were sampling these wines, The Find gave us our first taste of what they have to offer. These canapes were delicious, but my favourite was definitely the soup. Normally when eating out and about I rarely order soup, but I am absolutely ordering this next time I visit.

  • Watercress soup shot with a crispy quails egg.
  • Duck Confit and Pistachio terrine on a homemade oatcake topped with a beetroot chutney.
  • Garden Tiger Gin cured salmon with Horseradish cream.

After the wine talk, we sat down to eat. We had all pre-ordered, so it was tough to decide what to have. It certainly felt like you were at home, the room which can be used as a function room felt like a home away from home.

  • Aberdeen Angus Sirloin, with triple cooked chips, creamed spinach and bearnaise sauce.
  • Pan-fried cod with a leek fondue, chive crushed new potatoes and a prawn bisque
  • Braised radicchio risotto with Barkham Blue and caramelized walnuts.

The portions are generous, I was astounded by the size of my steak and the cod. My steak was cooked perfectly and the bearnaise was heavenly. As I knew what I was having next, I decided to pace myself.

I was not wrong, for us that chose The Find Fondue, possibly should of shared, that is why most of us took it home in a doggy bag and they are more than happy to oblige.

  • Vanilla Pannacotta with blood orange with a hazelnut and dark chocolate biscotti.
  • Warm Treacle and ginger sponge, poached rhubarb and clotted cream.
  • The Fondue – Warm chocolate sauce with homemade marshmallows, profiteroles, brownies and strawberries.

Whilst we were tucking into our delicious meals, David told us about the passion behind his venture into the world of hospitality. The Find is much more than you think; they are offer dining for celebrations, private parties, tasting events, product launches, blogging and networking events. How about hiring the venue? Having their chef cater to your needs? And there is more, they have live music and an alcohol licence, so you don’t have to worry about the small details. Where else in Cheltenham offers this?

Everything is bespoke to your requirements, but it does not stop there. On the top floor, they have The Workplace, a unique space where you can bring your work and not be alone. It is perfect for professionals who need a workspace, somewhere to hold meetings or events. Pretty handy to pop downstairs for coffee and a slice of cake, although I do not know how I would get my work done with all of their delights on offer.

I was massively impressed with David and Claire’s hospitality, The Find has become my new favourite hideout and I straight away booked a table for Sunday lunch with the family. This is exactly what Cheltenham needed, great coffee, exquisite food and friendly service that goes above and beyond.
